  Pageplus is now an excellent program if you are looking for page design software on a budget. Way outclasses MsPublisher for professional use.

• 7-zip - TOTALLY FREE compression and archiving software
  High quality open source archiving and compression utility. Easy download and installation. Why would you pay to work with Zip files?
   
  
• WinZip - compression and archiving software
  The standard on windows systems. Free evaluation period but then it annoys you till you pay up.
   
  
• Stuffit for Mac and Windows - compression and archiving software
  On Classic Mac you will need Stuffit. Limited free utility.
   
  
• CutePDF - print directly to PDF
  Installs as a printer on Windows systems. Limited free utility. Based on Ghostscript - the open source postscript interpreter
   
  
• PdfCreator - FREE, create PDF files by printing and drag and drop
  Installs as a printer on Windows systems but also has a file queueing system so you can convert standalone postscript to PDF - eg EPS files. This is open source software. Other Pdf utilities also worth checking out. Based on Ghostscript - the open source postscript interpreter.
   
  
• Firefox - FREE internet browser
  Generally more functional and secure than Internet Explorer. Based on the open source Mozilla project. Works on both Windows and Mac. Millions of users worldwide. The standard browser on open source operating systems, eg Linux and BSD Unix.

  180,000 open source software projects. Much of this software rivals or surpasses commercial products. Many projects have Windows downloads.
   
  
• Ghostscript - FREE postscript interpreter, Rip
  Ghostscript has been around for years and is a very serious postscript system. The basis of postscript usage on open source operating systems. Comes with various utilities to work with postscript.
   
  
• Quite Software - various inexpensive Acrobat plugins to work with PDF files
  Look into the guts of your pdf files with these excellent utilities.

  Probes your firewall from outside. Also loads of security utilities and information.
   
  
• ZoneAlarm - inexpensive Windows firewall and security suite.
  Currently very good but may be heading towards "Bloatware" like most of the other commercial software in this field.
   
  
• Comodo - FREE Windows firewall and security suite.
  Currently absolutely excellent. In our experience it does everything the paid for systems do - only it's better than most of them.

  Remove spyware from your system.
